Relationships, Sex Education and Health Educationlessons and school libraries act as Trojan horses for extremist gender ideology, hyper-sexualising young children with adult ideas about sex, pornography, “gender euphoria,” and surgical transitions while deliberately bypassing parents, erasing biological reality, and unleashing a social contagion of confusion, anxiety, and self-harm that funnels healthy kids toward irreversible sterility, mutilation, and lifelong medical dependency.

This FOI study commissioned by the Women’s Policy Centre exposes the scale with clinical precision: 29 % of responding primary schools and 41 % of secondary schools stock the most popular titles that present “being born in the wrong body,” “gender identity” as fact, and explicit adult sexual content (escorting, bondage, puberty blockers, double mastectomies, phalloplasty) as normal and desirable. Extrapolated across England’s state-maintained schools, these books alone are accessible to approximately 1.34 million primary pupils (age 4+) and 1.49 million secondary pupils, a conservative total of 2.8 million children.
The selected titles are not fringe; they are the most stocked:
- Primary: I Am Jazz, 10,000 Dresses, Introducing Teddy, Grandad’s Pride (featuring mastectomy scars), Jamie: A Transgender Cinderella Story.
- Secondary: What’s The T? (by Juno Dawson — the most popular, reaching ~660,000 pupils), Gender Euphoria(sex-work memoir), Trans Teen Survival Guide (step-by-step on hormones, chest surgery, “grow your own willy”), Queerly Autistic and The Awesome Autistic Guide for Trans Teens (targeted at the neurodiverse cohort already over-represented in gender clinics).
These texts are not balanced education. They:
- Declare “gender identity” an innate fact with zero counter-view or scientific context.
- Teach children how to “come out” using scripted lies to parents and how to transition behind their backs (“wear a mask at home”).
- Normalise pornography as self-discovery, detail anal sex, fingering, sex toys, and virginity as a “social construct.”
- Promote medical routes (blockers, cross-sex hormones, mastectomy, hysterectomy, phalloplasty) with minimal or no mention of Cass Review risks — sterility, bone-density loss, cognitive impairment, regret.
The mechanism is deliberate regulatory bypass: school libraries allow self-selection without parental notification or RSHE opt-out rights. Teachers read these stories aloud in primary classrooms, lending institutional authority. Third-sector providers (Stonewall, GIRES, School of Sexuality Education) and librarianship bodies actively recommend and award these books while labelling any gender-critical material “transphobic.” DfE guidance on political impartiality, age-appropriateness, and safeguarding is ignored in practice.
The harm is not theoretical. The Cass Review already documented the explosion in referrals, the over-representation of autistic and same-sex-attracted youth, and the weak evidence base for “affirmation.” This report supplies the missing upstream cause: millions of children are being immersed daily in activist propaganda that reframes normal childhood confusion or non-conformity as a fixed “trans” identity requiring adult medical intervention. The result is manufactured social contagion — confusion, anxiety, peer pressure, and a direct pipeline from storybook to clinic.
RSHE was sold as “relationships and health education.” In reality, it has become the state’s delivery system for radical left-wing queer theory and sex-positive ideology, prioritising adult activist fantasies over child safeguarding, biological truth, and parental rights. The evidence is now in black and white from the schools’ own FOI replies. The scandal can no longer be denied.
